"My wife and I needed help with utilising the existing space in our small house, designing a new kitchen and looking at ways that we could renovate to enlarge the house. Anna and I had ideas of what we wanted, but we were having difficulty visualising possibilities and how we could approach what was feeling a bit overwhelming, eg: what to choose, what materials, what design, what colours, which builder to use, where to buy the kitchen, council regulations etc. Before meeting John we had met with a local architect who made us feel silly for even contacting him. We met him, outlined our concerns and we were told that he was willing to do some general ideas of drawings for us, but we could tell he was not really keen. It was also a large amount of money. We didn't mind spending the money, but we didn't want to pay someone who was clearly not passionate or even remotely interested in the project. We left this architects office disheartened and disappointed. I subsequently came across John after looking online and researching local architects, building designers and drafting firms. The contrast with John was immediate. He was interested in our project and he offered to come to our house and see what it was we were wanting to achieve. John visited our house and listened to our concerns. He quickly offered excellent advice and possibilities for our house that we never would have considered. My wife and I decided to hire John to help design a plan for our house including a kitchen, a redesign of the layout of the house and possible extensions. John met with us regularly to make sure his plans were taking account of our taste and needs, and to give advice of how they could improve. He was also respectful of what we wanted and he strove to take this into his design. Hi design was brilliant! John helped us with all the council red tape which was a massive bonus. He helped us choose builders who were dedicated and reasonably priced. John also helped us choose a kitchen manufacturer that was perfect for us and of a very high standard. He Supported us throughout the whole process and always available to give advice.

Because of John, we got the house we had dreamt of. John's ideas made our house even better than what we had imagined.

Because of John, we saved money with builders and the renovation process.

Because of John, our ideas were sharpened and improved, whilst still taking account of our wishes for our home.

Because of John, we get to live in a house that uses our space intelligently and looks amazing.

John utilised our space in ways that we never would have considered. My wife and I highly recommend John. Hiring John was a fantastic decision."

"Having reasonably clear ideas for the requirements and general layout for our new home we were looking for someone who would listen and guide, not someone who would simply impose themselves or their designs onto us. From the first meeting we knew John would be the right person for our project. Asking us what we hoped to achieve, our lifestyle requirements now and in the future, budget, like ans dislikes John actively listened, was enthusiastic, knowledgeable and offered a multitude of ideas and potential options. With sensibly considered and creative ideas John took the basic framework of the brief and enhanced and honed a design that was practical, efficient and aesthetically pleasing. John's design has resulted in the constructed home exceeding our expectations. We have a modern and energy efficient home that also looks stunning and is fabulous to live in. We have no hesitation in recommending John Weston Architectural Design to anyone considering embarking on a building project."

"Our experience with John has been an easy and trusted relationship where John's focus was about transforming our house into a functional and beautiful living space, while still keeping our budget in mind. John's first meeting with us was a free, no obligation meeting at our house, where we discussed design concepts and ideas we had for our proposed house renovation. John was up front about what he thought could and could not be done within our rough budget. We first had the idea to build up a second storey on our 1950's weatherboard home, and although he would have proceeded with our wishes, he explained the pro's and con's of this idea, at which point it became very clear this was not a good idea. We then discussed what we could do on the one level, where he quickly described to us that there was a lot we could do just by simply opening the house up into open plan living and taking advantage of unused land on our block to increase the size of the house in an affordable manner. The meeting ended by John simply offering the next step, which was that we could engage him if we liked, by sending him our wish list of all the things we would like to see in our house. So we decided to engage John and write a wish list of all the things we wanted. What happened next surprised us. John nailed the brief, presenting a design that nailed all of our wish list items. John then helped us with the council approval process and provided us with names of trusted high quality builders to organise quotes. Even after all approvals were sought and builder selected, John worked with our builder and checked in on site to make sure all was running well. We were very pleasantly surprised at John's commitment to driving the transformation of our poky 1950's house to a modern, liveable and beautiful home."

"We were introduced to John after several disappointing experiences with a number of builders & design people who were unable to grasp the simple concept of building to a budget. On two occasions our budget of $250k was blown by $150k. On one occasion the builder simply said 'the design people never told me you had a budget'.......so what a breath of fresh air John was. He looked at what we wanted to achieve, shared our vision, enhanced several of our ideas and influenced the build project and even the builder to ensure the project was on track and within budget. Our home is aesthetically pleasing, has a low environmental footprint and is very livable."

"I recently carried out a renovation on an investment property in New Town. I engaged John Weston to help me with the planning process. He visited the house and listened to my ideas and quickly returned with some proposals which were just great. Once we settled on a plan he did everything that had to be done to put the plan into action. He even arranged an engineer and building surveyor when I was overseas. His paperwork made the planning, building and plumbing applications a breeze to complete. He has been a terrific help in all facets of the job. I can't recommend him highly enough for anyone wanting assistance with planning and executing any building project."

"I represent the Catholic Church in the lower channel area (Kingborough municipality), and approached John Weston Architectural Design, to design a tower for a very large and ancient bell. The history of which has its origins in the nineteenth century. In 1897, St. Marys Church in Snug was destroyed by the 'Black Friday' fires. In 1898 a new church was erected together with a bell mounted on a tower. Its history is varied and interesting but suffices to say the 1967 fires, which caused enormous damage to the Snug district, again decimated the church, the only thing standing was the bell and its tower. John accepted the assignment and he exceeded all expectations, drawing the plans and providing professional advice. His work has enabled us to proceed with the enterprise and we have now submitted the plans to council for approval. I have no hesitation in recommending John, his work is comprehensive, he is diligent and he provides straight forward helpful advice."

"I just want to thank you for the fantastic design you came up with for my kitchen renovation. You have taken a small space and made it so much better. The layout maximises the space and provides a light, open area which is practical and inviting. Your advice on finishes and decor was appreciated and the overall look is just what I wanted. Everyone who comes to my house is amazed by my kitchen and deck area. I will certainly recommend you to friends who are thinking of renovating their property."

"John was able to quickly provide some solutions to reducing my project cost, fitting within my budget, yet produce a plan with immediate improvements to layout and function. It is only a small development, however it will make significant life style improvements for all of my family. I am very grateful for John stepping in and engaging his expertise for a quick result, and providing assistance with contacts to complete the much awaited renovations on my home."

"I am so happy that we went with John Weston to be the one to design our new home. We couldn't be happier with the way John listened to what we needed and desired and gave us exactly what we asked for. It makes a pleasant change to go to someone who is prepared to listen and not push their own ideas onto you. We cannot recommend John highly enough, he has such a great eye for detail. Thank you so much John we are delighted."

"I purchased my waterfront block of land in Old Beach with many ideas in my mind of how I wanted my new house to look. John jumped into the design with great enthusiasm & has developed a truly impressive house with masses of wow factor! I can't wait to have the house completed & enjoy the view of the water. This house is already the talk of the neighbourhood and it is only at the steel framing stage."

"We heard of John from friends who had him do some work for them. John was responsive, listened to us & knew we wanted to do a small job, bathroom & a balcony, on a budget. John's advice was creative, functional & captured the spirit of the existing house. We were very pleased with his recommendation of a builder who we were delighted with in terms of their practical, efficient & timely work & co-operation with us. Thanks John for your guidance, design & managing the process with the council. We are delighted with the outcome."
