My client recently purchased this small heritage listed property in Battery Point Tasmania. The house currently has a very dark / cold ground floor with an awkward kitchen and very steep irregular stair. My clients wanted to bring more light and life into the ground floor living areas & create a studio feel. We designed 2 options for a rear extension. Option. 1 is to extend only enough to form a new kitchen & stair & link the floor plan to the rear courtyard. Option. 2 is grander in scale and includes a new auxillary wing. Both designs take advantage of the afternoon sunlight. The floor plan is modern but the external extension has a more traditional form so that the extension has a visual link to the original structure. Retro fit internal double glazing will be used on the existing windows to avoid excessive heat loss & an energy efficient water heating system used to lower daily running costs. |
