My clients came to me wanting to extend / alter their european styled "A" framed timber house in Margate Tasmania. Situated directly on the waterfront at Dru Point it has magnificent views of the water & access to all day sunlight. From the start we could see that the house deserved a more beachy, open plan living feel. The living areas are now designed to be on the upper floor. Mainly to take advantage of the views. Downstairs there is now a parents retreat with walk in robe & a luxurious ensuite. The front deck is for morning use with the sun streaming over the water. The rear deck is for lazy summer days relaxing in the warm afternoon sun. Roof overhangs have been designed to sweep away from the building so as to give the feeling of open space when walking onto the decks. Double glazing & extensive insulation will be used to enable this alteration to be seven star energy rated. A new water tank will also be installed to take advantage of the large catchment area of the new roof. Rustic rough sawn hardwood vertical weatherboards will be used in conjunction with cement rendering to give this house a beachy, shack feel.
